A path through a picturesque park is interrupted by a tiled floor the size of a living room. On either side, parallel to the path, are carefully finished concrete walls of matching size. From one wall protrudes a built-in bench about the length of a couch, which faces a cut-out window in the opposite wall. This window is reverse-bevelled, so that the interior rectangle affords a crisp edge to the view beyond. The scene includes the typical aspects of landscape genre-paintings representing the sublime: skies, clouds, mountains, forests and oceans, according to the seasons, weather and the time of day.

From a position on the bench, the wall blocks out the landscape except for what is visible through the window. Illusionistically, the view is flattened, making it appear more painting-like than it actually is.
