ON THE DIVIDE OF IMAGINATION AND MEMORY WE LOOK BOTH WAYS

Imagination moves us forward. Memory takes us back.
Memory takes us forward. Imagination takes us back.
We start with the body.
We want the body that wants us. We want the body as the body wants us.
It makes us up, then we make it up. We make it up, then it makes us.
As we move toward, we imagine it. As we leave it behind, we remember it.
We remember it coming together. We imagine it coming apart.
We imagine it coming together. We remember it coming apart.
What we know of the body we have. What we have of the body we know.
What we don’t know we don’t have. We don’t know what we have.
We look down on the body as we look up. We look up to the body as we look down.
We turn on the body as it turns on us. As the body turns, we turn.
We turn on our want. We want in our turn.
As we turn, we slide, we slew, we two.
We want to be the body, as the body wants to be us.
We want. We don’t want.
Our breath goes out.
In.

We see whatever we want. We see what we want.
Our looking sees our want. We seize our want.
Looking through sea-wet eyes.
We have had it with the body. The body has had it with us.
We have had the body, and the body has had us.
Not enough.
We end with the body. The end of wanting.
Wanting the end of wanting the body.
We are done with it, and it is done.
With us. Without us.
Out.
